Q: What are the benefits of using a solar pool heater?

A: Using a solar pool heater has many benefits, including lower operating costs, reduced carbon footprint, and extended swimming season. It is a renewable energy source that does not release harmful emissions or pollutants. Additionally, it is low maintenance and can last for many years with proper care.

Q: Is a solar pool heater suitable for all types of pools?

A: Solar pool heaters can be used for most types of pools, including above-ground and in-ground pools. However, the effectiveness of the system depends on several factors, such as the location of your pool, the size and shape of the pool, and the climate in your area. It is recommended to consult with a professional installer to determine if a solar pool heater is the right choice for your pool.

Conclusions

When talking about fitness, I usually discuss what’s inside our bodies — like muscles, lungs, heart, blood pressure et cetera… but what about our skin?
Skin
Your skin, or your ‘cutaneous system’, is the largest organ in your body (about twenty square feet for an average male). Its major function is to keep ‘bad things’ out and ‘good things’ in.
Some organs like your heart or kidney can fail over time, but your skin never fails. You don’t expect your skin to suddenly rupture and spill your intestines and other organs out on to the sidewalk… gruesome thought. “Thank you, Skin”.
Composition
Your skin is composed of an inner layer called the dermis and an outer layer called the epidermis. The outermost surface of the epidermis is composed entirely of dead cells.
Yes, the outer presentation of your body is completely dead. You shed dead skin cells all the time – about 25,000 cells per minute or over 1 million every hour. In other words, you shed about a pound of dead skin cells every year.
Beneath the epidermis is the dermis which contains your skin’s living tissue: blood and lymph vessels, nerves, sweat and sebum glands and hair follicles.
Beneath the dermis is the subcutaneous layer, which is not technically part of your skin, but is where fat is stored for energy. It provides insulation and attaches your skin to the rest of your body.
‘Holey’ Skin
Your skin has a lot of holes — between 2 – 5 million hair follicle holes and twice that number of sweat glands. The hair follicles also secrete sebum which mixes with sweat to form an oily layer on the surface of your skin. This helps keep your skin supple and forms a barrier to keep out foreign organisms — Mother Nature’s skin care.
When one of those follicles becomes blocked with dead skin or dried sebum it becomes a blackhead. When it becomes infected or inflamed is becomes a pimple. Young people often get pimples because their glands are highly active.
Melanin
The first layer of skin is translucent in every person. Skin gets is color from pigments — the most important molecule determining skin color is ‘eumelanin’ or more commonly known as melanin. It is one of the oldest molecules in the living world. It gives birds the color of their feathers and gives octopi the blackness of their ink. It colors our eyes and hair, and its production slows as we grow older… that is why our hair turns grey as we age.
Skin Color
There is no such thing as race in terms of skin color. Skin color is a result of convergent evolution. Brown skin or light skin is a result of the amount of sunlight our ancestors received where they lived. Dark skin contains a rich amount of melanin pigment while light skin is ‘de-pigmented’.
Recent research finds that light hair and eyes are thought to have evolved around the Baltic Sea about six thousand years ago. Alas, we are all an experiment in human evolution.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is manufactured by your skin when it is exposed to sunlight. But lighter-skinned people in the northern regions of Europe and North American don’t get enough sunlight to produce enough Vitamin D. It is estimated that 50 percent of people globally are deficient in Vitamin D and in northern climes it may be as high as 90 percent.
Skin Fitness
Google ‘skin care’ and you are overwhelmed by products promising to clean, tone and moisturize your skin. Since we want those dead cells on our exterior to look ‘non-dead’, we buy into all kinds of promises offering sexy skin — get that smooth complexion, tone saggy jowls, eliminate baggy eyes, foaming liquids, melting balms – even buy ‘advice’ from some guy in Budapest who has ‘the ultimate skin care secret’.
Skin care is a hugely profitable market. Most products are pure hype. The basic two tips for skin care fitness are (1) wash your face twice a day with gentle soap, and (2) avoid excessive sun exposure.
The best advice I have heard on life and skin is by American author and poet, Dorothy Parker, who said, “Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone.” Sounds about right to me!

Final look inside West Denton Leisure Centre before it is demolished for £26m replacement – Chronicle Live

New photos offer a final glimpse inside the closed swimming pool, library, and customer service centre before its demolition
New images have revealed a final look inside West Denton leisure centre before it is finally torn down.
The swimming pool, library, and customer service centre are due to be demolished to make way for a state-of-the-art £26m replacement. Ahead of the bulldozers moving onto the site, newly-released photos offer a last glimpse inside the centre.
Newcastle City Council’s pictures from inside the empty facility, which officially opened in 1970, show it completely stripped back and with the pools drained.
Read More: Tyne Bridge restoration to cost £12m more than planned as inflation sends prices spiralling
Demolition work had initially been meant to start back in January, before the council later said it would be pushed back to May. But, more than six months after that initial start date, the shuttered centre remains standing.
There have been concerns about the plans for the new leisure centre, which are largely being funded through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund, due to the impact of inflation. The estimated cost of the project has already risen by around £4m since the scheme was first approved and its target opening date was pushed back from summer 2024 to December next year.
Newcastle City Council has insisted that the financial pressures surrounding the plans, which have been a concern for other major building works being delivered by local authorities across the country, will not derail the project. The council has previously said it would seek up to £2m from Sport England to help cover the rising costs of the new centre, as well as spending more of its own money on the scheme.
Once built, the new facility will boast a 25m swimming pool with eight lanes, a 17m training pool, an aqua play pool, a sports hall, a fitness studio and gym, a library, community spaces, a soft play area, and a café. Though construction is yet to begin, the council indicated on Monday that the December 2024 target opening date has not changed at this stage.
Denton and Westerhope ward councillor Dan Greenhough told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: “It has been so great hearing the stories people have of the old West Denton Pool and it shows how important it was that we were able to win the campaign to get funding for the new facility. The brand-new Outer West Leisure Centre will be transformational for Denton and Westerhope and the Outer West.
“It will be a real asset for the community and allow residents and families to make new memories for decades to come. I am proud to have backed this gamechanger for our community, and as the project keeps moving forward, I know that the excitement builds for the new centre.”

Michael Watt: New fitness to practise hearing announced for September – BBC

A new fitness to practise hearing for the doctor at the centre of Northern Ireland's biggest patient recall has been announced for September.
The case of former doctor Michael Watt was remitted back to the Medical Practice Tribunal Service (MPTS).
It followed a decision by the High Court earlier this year to quash a decision where he was voluntarily erased from the medical register.
That hearing was heard in private.
At the time, families affected said they were "outraged" at the move where the doctor was able to remove himself from the medical register in 2021 without his case being heard in a public setting.
This new hearing will consider whether Michael Watt's fitness to practise is impaired by "deficient professional performance" following a general medical performance assessment in which his practise was assessed as unacceptable in five areas.
In a significant move for the families, the hearing is to be heard in public and not, as in the previous case, in private.
The hearing will be held over two separate weeks starting in September and again in October.
The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that between 7 and 22 of October 2018, Michael Watt underwent a General Medical Council assessment of the standard of his professional performance where it is alleged that that performance was unacceptable in the areas of maintaining professional performance, assessment, clinical management, record keeping and relationship with patients.
According to the MPTS website, the allegation may be amended as the hearing proceeds and when findings of fact are made by the tribunal.
Former patient Danielle O'Neill told BBC News NI that while she welcomed this fresh development, families are extremely disappointed that patients will not be involved in this hearing.
