Winchester Sport and Leisure Park no 'gym only' membership – Hampshire Chronicle

WINCHESTER’S new sport and leisure park will not be introducing a gym-only membership option for the foreseeable future.
The question about the type of membership Winchester Sport and Leisure Park currently offers was asked at a recent public meeting.
The Winchester Sport and Leisure Park advisory board meeting was very positive about the centre, which opened in May.
In a presentation by staff who manage the centre, from Everyone Active, they revealed that since opening it has received more than 249,000 visits.
Between May and September, they had over 62,000 concessionary visits and fitness membership had grown from 2,515 in to 4,325.
The meeting was told that the leisure park is hosting more local sport clubs, including Winchester University’s BUCS fixtures.
After the presentation, Cllr Susan Cook asked if the centre were considering a gym-only membership. The current membership options include swimming and exercise classes.
Alison Norman, Everyone Active area contract manager, said: “The membership pricing is very reasonable. When people signed up in May, they joined on a £29.99 membership which included gym and swimming with exercise classes which I think is fantastic value for money.
“That price is fixed for a year, so when we come round to the anniversary, it will go up to £39.99 which I think is still very good value compared to other operators in the area. We’re not considering a gym only membership at this stage.”
For people wanting to join now, the standard membership, which includes gym, swimming, group exercise classes, health suites and saunas, is £39.99 a month.
The platinum membership, which includes all of the standard options as well as Fortis studio, spa, hot yoga and use of the online package, Everyone On Demand, is £49.99 a month.
The meeting’s chairman, Cllr Angela Clear, said to the attendees from Everyone Active: “I’m so pleased with with your presentation, so very much appreciated. I realise the centre is fantastic, the range of activities you provide is vast and I would like to thank you personally.
“You’re a good team, you have good engagement from the centre with members of the public and organisations. So well done to you.”
The new centre at Bar End cost around £38 million and has replaced the centre at North Walls Recreation Ground, off Gordon Road.
The city council has revealed that it is working with Southampton University to redevelop the site. The River Park Leisure Centre, built in the 1970s and rebuilt in the 1980s after a major fire, will be demolished.
